Carolyn Martinez Nominated for Prestigious Johnno Award for Outstanding Service to Queensland Writers
Hawkeye Publishing is thrilled to announce that our very own Carolyn Martinez, director and passionate advocate for Australian literature, has been nominated for the esteemed Johnno Award for the third time.
This prestigious accolade, presented annually by the Queensland Writers Centre (QWC), honours individuals whose extraordinary contributions have enriched Queensland’s vibrant literary community. Named after the late David Malouf’s iconic novel Johnno, the award celebrates those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to support writers, educators, arts workers, and advocates who promote storytelling and creativity in Queensland.
Carolyn Martinez has been a pivotal figure in the Queensland literary landscape, championing emerging Australian authors through her visionary leadership at Hawkeye Publishing. Under her guidance, Hawkeye has become synonymous with uplifting diverse Australian voices and stories.
‘QLD Writers’ Centre’s members tend to hold a fervent love of literature so the importance of my nomination from within that group is particularly poignant,’ said Ms. Martinez.
'Elevating Australian stories and Australian talent is our number one goal. I see this nomination as recognition for the Hawkeye team, not just myself, as to the importance of the work we’re doing. Trade contracts for debut authors are hard to come by. We’ve set ourselves a challenging task in terms of financial margin, but everyone who works and volunteers here at Hawkeye is 100% dedicated to ensuring that each year we continue to offer a number of contracts to debut authors.’
The winner of the Johnno Award will be announced at QWC’s annual Member Christmas Party, a much-anticipated event that celebrates the achievements and camaraderie of writers and literary enthusiasts across the state.
