Serpent’s Wake: A Tale For The Bitten by Lauren Daniels is a magic realism, coming of age novel, that shortlisted with the international Half the World Global Literati Award 2016, ranking 4th in the top 40 for the People’s Choice Award.

After twelve years trapped in the throat of a serpent, a girl escapes.

She returns to her village naked with a monstrous snakeskin trailing behind her.

One decision at a time, she reclaims her life.

Each character she encounters by land and sea—brute, healer, orphan, mystic, lover—reflects an unhealed aspect of herself and plots her recovery through symbolic milestones.

Serpent’s Wake is intended for adults and young adults exploring how, once fractured, we may mend.

Loved, loved, loved it. Need to re-read when my friends in the book club have finished. Lauren writes about magic in a magical way and this exquisite story emerges from darkness into the light. As light as her touch as a writer. Don’t miss it.

When you are in the process of healing from the inevitable wounds inflicted by life and need a friend to lead you towards the light, sometimes that friend is a magical, poetic tale… Serpent’s Wake is a masterfully crafted tale that creates a path through pain and insecurity to healing, self reliance… and to love. On a side note, the author’s knowledge and appreciation of nature and the creatures that walk, crawl, slither…etc on this planet show in her poetic presentation of them as well as her attention to detail when describing them. Truly a five star read. Why are you still reading this?! Go buy the book and start your own magical journey!

Five stars. Serpent’s Wake is a magnificent story of a girl who experienced trauma and reclaimed her life and how to love again. I was deeply touched by this novel and recommend it to anyone who is looking to be swept away into a fairy tale with a twist. This book could sit next to Neil Gaiman’s book, ‘The Ocean at The End of the Lane’ and attract readers of such wonderous adventures.

Serpent’s Wake is an incredible book. .. a tale of the human spirit as it struggles to find it’s way to wholeness. .. a journey into the heart. The wisdom and creativity of the author leads us with powerful imagery from the darkness of trauma, to possibility, to glimmers of light, to hope, to love, to freedom. I laughed, I cried as my own story was called forth. I love this book and will read it again and again. It is truly a gift of love.
