Hawkeye Books is pleased to announce that our guest judges for this year’s Sydney Hammond Memorial Short Story Competition are the Brisbane Scribes.
The Scribes can be described as a powerhouse of women who eat, live and breathe literature.
This group of writers meets regularly to challenge and be challenged by one another, to support each other’s writing progress and to celebrate their individual and group successes.
The group began in 2020 after two founding members, Jo Skinner and Jane Connolly, compiled Stories from the Heart, an anthology of stories providing a social portrait of the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic on the lives of ordinary Australians. The Queensland Writer’s Centre distributed the anthology to its members at Christmas 2020 and the Queensland Museum will use it in a forthcoming COVID exhibition.

In 2022 the Scribes were invited to compile a social history of Camp Hill Healthcare to celebrate its seventy-fifth anniversary. The book was launched in September of that year.
The Brisbane Scribes look forward to joining the judging panel as guest judges for the Sydney Hammond Short Story Competition in 2023.
